Joshua Mutton Bustin
This weekend Joshua got to participate in an awesome event!!! It is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity and is something that we will all remember for the rest of our lives!
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is one of the largest if not the largest rodeo in the world! Thousands come out to enjoy the carnival, eat a turkey leg (or other yummy rodeo food), and watch the cowboys test their skill and endurance on bulls, broncos...and for a 5 or 6 year old cowboy or cowgirl, mutton (aka sheep)!
Last year we registered Joshua for the 2010 Muttin Bustin with high hopes but realistic expectations. Only 16 kids are chosen for each night of rodeo and even though that adds up to a couple hundred kids over the course of the full rodeo, for the thousands that register it is a slim chance.
We were lucky! We found out Thursday night Joshua was selected to participate in the Mutton Bustin event on March 6th! When we told him, at first he said he didn't want to do it (not that he was scared, just not interested), but after a minute he said "All right I'll do it!" He trained on the arm of our big chair and with piggie-back rides on mommy!
Joshua was excited but never fully grasped how huge this was! Joshua was the last one to ride and out of the shoot he held on for about 4 seconds making it about half way across the Mutton Bustin section. He scored an 88 on his ride! All of the riders were given a belt buckle and trophy at the end!
It was awesome, and fun, and precious all at the same time!
We are so proud of him!
Here are some pictures and an awesome slide show giving a recap! We are ordering the video that was shot at close range and may post that when we get it. I was too excited to hold still when filming Joshua so my video is very shaky. There are great pictures that were shot too. www.johnmccaine.com has the gallery for March 6th. Joshua's pictures start around 383. I was told that there was a numbering error in the gallery and that it was temporarily taken down and will be put back up later today. I don't know if that means Joshua's pictures will have new numbers but if they do, just look for the kid with the green shirt!
Joshua's audience!
He's suited up and ready to go!
